Tangentyere Council is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Town Camps and Central Australia.

First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was a finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

  • Safe House Carer

    Safe House Carer

    Level: 1.1 - 3.1

    Salary: $27.65 - 36.00 per hour

    The Tangentyere Safe House (Ndarndarinjika Safe Houses) provides short term crisis accommodation for Aboriginal children between the ages of 0-12 years old, including respite care. Working from a child centred approach the aim of the program is to ensure that young people are supported therapeutically through the safe provision of a physically, emotionally, and culturally appropriate family environment. The program recognises continued connection to family and culture as integral to a child’s identity and has cultural safety as a fundamental principle of its service provision.  


    This position is responsible for the day-to-day support for Aboriginal children in our care, the primary focus of this role is to ensure the children are supported through a physically, emotionally, and culturally safe family environment.  Safe House Carers work on a roster system within a home care setting and are required to attend to all aspects of the house whilst on duty with a primary focus on the care and supervision of all children residing in our houses.


    As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations.   • Carpenter

    Carpenter

    Level: 6.1

    Salary: $101,478 per annum/pro rata

    Tangentyere Constructions delivers property management, new construction work, and trade repairs and maintenance works to Alice Springs Town Camps and remote communities & outstations. Carpenters will be allocated by the General Manager to work on projects under the supervision of the Property Management Team Leader or one of the Constructions Supervisors.


    This Carpenter will work under the supervision of the construction supervisors, and undertake various construction related activities including but not limited to tasks such as constructing and upgrading municipal residences and buildings, maintenance services including carrying out necessary minor general repairs.


    This position is also expected to work autonomously or as part of a team, demonstrate sound judgement and decision making. The Carpenter must be a responsible person and have the capacity to instruct and supervise unskilled labourers in basic construction related tasks.


    This position involves out of hours work including evenings and weekends.

  • Senior Practitioner - Youth Case Management

    Senior Practitioner - Youth Case Management

    Level: 6.1

    Salary: $101,478 per annum/ pro rata

    The Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division brings together a range of programs that support Aboriginal children, youth, and the community to improve safety, education, health, and wellbeing outcomes.  The Division includes Brown Street Youth Service, Town Camp Youth HUBs, Youth Outreach Service, Patrols, Looking After the Kids (LATK), and Youth Case Management Service.


    Working closely with the YCS Manager and the Youth & Community Safety Coordinator, the Senior Practitioner is responsible for supervision and quality management of the Youth Case Management Service.  The service is responsible for some key priorities within the YCS division. It provides wrap-around responses to young people accessing YCS services, including restorative justice interventions where young people are involved in incidents or a suspension. It identifies, assesses, and refers as appropriate for specialist needs. And it provides Case Coordination support to identified young people working with multiple tertiary services. Alongside this work, Case Managers provide Social and Emotional Wellbeing activities up to two evenings per week at activity programs. The Case Management Service works closely with our LATK Outreach Workers, who do evening follow-up and outreach as identified by the Case Management team. The Senior Practitioner is responsible for supervision of up to four Youth Case Managers.


    The successful candidate will have previous experience leading or managing other staff and a degree in a relevant discipline - social work preferred. Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed and strengths-based practices. They will work in a culturally safe manner and have demonstrated skills in assessing and engaging at-risk young people and families. The Senior Practitioner role will be pivotal in integrating the work of stakeholders around young people through previous experience in case coordination, referral, information sharing (consistent with legislative requirements), joint planning and co-work as required. Work in the evening until 7pm required two nights per week.

    The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with good communication skills and is committed to working with vulnerable and at-risk young people and their families. Their role will be pivotal in integrating the day and night programs within the YCSS Division.

    The Tangentyere Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division brings together a range of programs and services for young people. This includes the Brown Street Youth Service, the Youth Development Service providing afterhours programs to young people on Town Camps and out-of-school hours services.  The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing.  This means that all staff, including Senior Youth Workers are working across programs to provide client and placed-based focused services that are flexible and responsive to needs. 


    With services running seven days per week, and during school holidays, the Senior Youth Worker will supervise and provide a range of safe, fun, active, creative, and culturally appropriate activities and learning experiences for children and young people on Town Camps and across our other service areas. The YCS Youth Worker will lead, support, evaluate and manage these activities. Programs will be community-led, age appropriate (6-18 years) and gender specific when appropriate, with a strong focus on mentoring and support for young people to encourage school attendance, and support their personal, cultural, and vocational growth.


    The Senior Youth Workers will also work alongside other Town Camps, 3 Brown Street, and Community Safety teams to plan and deliver larger youth activities and events. Either at Brown Street or around Alice Springs area. This role includes leadership/mentoring other YCS youth workers and staff. Providing direct supervision and direction during shifts. As well as positive role modelling for young people.


    The hours of work range from 12pm to 9.30pm, Monday to Sunday. Flexibility around days and times will be provided to the successful permanent candidate.

As well as our Night and Youth Patrol Service, including Looking After the Kids case management service.  The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing.  This means that all staff, including Support Workers, are working across program siloes to provide client and placed-based focused services that are flexible and responsive to needs.


    With services running seven days per week, and during school holidays, the YCS Support Worker will support activities across all these program areas. Including assistance with safe, fun, active, creative, and culturally appropriate activities and learning experiences for children and young people on Town Camps and at 3 Brown Street. Providing support to our YCS Night Patrol as a driver or support person. Or supporting our Youth Outreach Service to conduct activities at Town Camps without a place-based Youth Service.


    The Town Camp Youth Support Worker will have an excellent knowledge of the Town Camp community and families and be a part of the broader Town Camp communities.


    The Town Camp Youth Support Worker will work alongside a youth worker or patroller in delivering the program and activities.

    The Domestic Violence Specialist Children’s Service (DVSCS) is one component of Tangentyere’s Family Violence Prevention Programs (FVPP). The FVPP is an integrated program with components designed to meet the needs of men, women, young people and children who have been affected by issues of domestic and family violence, as well as primary prevention work, and also consists of a Men’s Behaviour Change Program, the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group, and the Young Women’s Family Safety Group.


    The DVSCS provides specialist early intervention support for Aboriginal young people, aged between 12 and 18, who have been impacted by domestic and family violence.

    • By creating age-appropriate and gender-based family and domestic violence critical interventions and youth informed services, the DVSCS is designed to:

    • Support young people’s understanding of domestic and family violence through education, and to provide frameworks for relationships that are respectful, safe and free from violence

    • Increase the safety, health and wellbeing of young people, their families and the broader community

    • Contribute to intergenerational change by shifting harmful attitudes and beliefs around gender, masculinity, and violence in relationships


    The development and delivery of the Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Children’s Services will complement the work already achieved by the Alice Springs Response to Domestic and Family Violence and will build on strong interagency relationships to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people impacted by violence, as well as their families and community.

    Tangentyere Aged & Community Services (TACS) is part of the Family Safety & Social Services Division, which aims to improve the quality of life of Central Australian Aboriginal people and the wider community through providing innovative, responsive, and culturally safe services.


    TACS provide CHSP, HCP, NDIS & Chronic Disease home care & centre-based services to an extremely diverse and vulnerable cohort of people, where health is more often secondary to other social determinants. With more than 7 languages spoken and over 100 clients, TACS continues to uphold quality service provision and maintains its strong ties with members of the Alice Springs and wider community.


    The Registered Nurse position requires strong clinical leadership, administrative skills, knowledge of normal Ageing and the impact of Chronic Disease on people. This role supports the local community and the promotion and restoration of client health and wellbeing. The position requires the ability to undertake comprehensive clinical assessments, critically analyse findings and collaborate with external stakeholders to provide person-centred supports to clients.  In addition, this position will provide support to employees as they assist clients to achieve better health outcomes.

    Land & Learning Project Officer - Watiwanyu

    TCACs Community Centres Division (CCD) provide innovative, unique, place-based programs that support Aboriginal children, youth, and families to achieve positive outcomes in community safety, education, and wellbeing in Alice Springs and the greater region.


    Tangentyere’s Land & Learning program delivers two-way science education to school students in remote Indigenous communities and produces resources targeted to these communities. The program, which has run for 25 years, supports the teaching of Indigenous ecological knowledge and links this to Western science.


    The advertised position is to support two-way science and learning on country activities with 1 remote school. The project is funded by the Department of Education.

    This position will work alongside senior staff to deliver youth programs and services to young people.  The CAYLUS trainee will learn to engage well with community stakeholders in the CAYLUS service area to develop and implement strategies that prevent and reduce the impact of substance misuse on young people and families. 


    This position will be based full time in Ampilatwatja.
