The Tangentyere Safe House (Ndarndarinjika Safe Houses) provides short term crisis accommodation for Aboriginal children between the ages of 0-12 years old, including respite care. Working from a child centred approach the aim of the program is to ensure that young people are supported therapeutically through the safe provision of a physically, emotionally, and culturally appropriate family environment. The program recognises continued connection to family and culture as integral to a child’s identity and has cultural safety as a fundamental principle of its service provision.
This position is responsible for the day-to-day support for Aboriginal children in our care, the primary focus of this role is to ensure the children are supported through a physically, emotionally, and culturally safe family environment. Safe House Carers work on a roster system within a home care setting and are required to attend to all aspects of the house whilst on duty with a primary focus on the care and supervision of all children residing in our houses.

The Tangentyere Youth, Families and Community (YFCS) Division brings together a range of programs and services for young people. This includes the Brown Street Youth Service, the Youth Development Service providing afterhours programs to young people on Town Camps and out-of-school hours services. The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing. This means that all staff, including Patrollers, are working across program siloes to provide client and placed-based focused services that are flexible and responsive to needs.
With our Patrol service running seven days per week, the Patroller will drive a patrols vehicle alongside a support worker. They will provide safe and culturally appropriate transport through public areas of Alice Springs and Town Camps to both adults and children.
The Patroller will also provide early intervention, education and support to Aboriginal people and the wider community in a way that respects culture and human rights. With guidance from a Senior Patroller, they will provide referral and relevant information about support services to passengers. And will encourage responsible alcohol use, school, and healthcare attendance as well as support and empower Aboriginal people to make a choice that creates a safer environment within the Alice Springs community.
The hours of work are 6.30pm to 2am, Monday to Sunday. Flexibility around rostered days and times will be provided to the successful permanent candidate.

The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing.
With services running seven days per week, and during school holidays, the YCS Support Worker will support activities across all these program areas. Including assistance with safe, fun, active, creative, and culturally appropriate activities and learning experiences for children and young people on at 3 Brown Street. Providing support to our YCS Night Patrol as a driver or support person. Or supporting our Youth Outreach Service to conduct activities at Town Camps without a place-based Youth Service.
The Youth Support Worker will have an excellent knowledge of the Town Camp community and families and be a part of the broader Town Camp communities.
The Youth Support Worker will work alongside a youth worker or patroller in delivering the program and activities.

Programs will be community-led, age appropriate (6-18 years) and gender specific when appropriate, with a strong focus on mentoring and support for young people to encourage school attendance, and support their personal, cultural, and vocational growth.
The YCS Youth Workers will directly report to the Team leaders and work alongside other YCS Youth Program teams, and Community Safety teams to plan and deliver larger youth activities and events. Either at Brown Street or around Alice Springs area and positive role modelling for young people. This role operates Tuesday to Saturday, after hours until 9:30pm during the week, and on Saturday’s hours vary.

Nyewente Bounce Club is an afterschool basketball program for young people aged 12-18years. This initiative aims to deliver strengths-based skills development program to support pro-social engagement of children and young people residing in the camp. This program will provide employment opportunities for local coaches to promote basketball as a means of engagement and providing an impacting experience that inspires them to set goals and be motivated about their own future. The Bounce Club training program delivers customised training in program facilitation and project management for Indigenous coaches to deliver the bounce club program in their own community, supported by the Trucking Yards Community Centre team.
The bounce club program includes basketball skills & drills using social emotional learning research related to the development of resiliency and employability skills for young people. This program will run one a week for 2hrs during the school term.
The Trucking Yard Bounce Club Youth Coach will run weekly basketball sessions with children and young people. The ideal candidates will be Trucking Yards residents who are enthusiastic about sports and working with young people.

Tangentyere Constructions delivers property management, new construction work, and trade repairs and maintenance works to Alice Springs Town Camps and remote communities & outstations. Carpenters will be allocated by the General Manager to work on projects under the supervision of the Property Management Team Leader or one of the Constructions Supervisors.
This Carpenter will work under the supervision of the construction supervisors, and undertake various construction related activities including but not limited to tasks such as constructing and upgrading municipal residences and buildings, maintenance services including carrying out necessary minor general repairs.
This position is also expected to work autonomously or as part of a team, demonstrate sound judgement and decision making. The Carpenter must be a responsible person and have the capacity to instruct and supervise unskilled labourers in basic construction related tasks.

Tangentyere Family Support Service delivers early intervention, and prevention supports for Aboriginal families in Alice Springs, focusing on the wellbeing and best interests of children aged 0–18. The program offers culturally safe, trauma-informed case management tailored to each family's unique circumstances.
Using a goal-oriented, family-focused approach, the service supports families to create safe and nurturing environments for children. Through coordinated case planning and support, it aims to strengthen parenting capacity, build resilience, and promote long-term positive outcomes.
The Child & Family Practitioner plays a key role in delivering assertive outreach and intensive case management. They assist families in addressing immediate needs, coordinating holistic supports, and fostering sustainable change. Collaboration with Child Protection and other stakeholders is central to achieving these outcomes.
This role requires a highly motivated professional with strong communication skills and a commitment to working with vulnerable families. Led by our Board of Directors, the Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) is working closely with Town Campers to ensure all aspects of Housing Management across all Town Camps transitions back to TCAC in a manner which upholds principles of self-determination and supports strong governance within Housing Associations/Committees utilising the local – decision making framework.
The Town Camp Governance and Safety Project Officer is a full-time position working within the OCE team to ensure new and existing governance and organisational policies and programs address local priorities and needs to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes.
The Town Camp Governance and Safety Coordinator leads internal coordination and response to issues on Town Camps, facilitates leadership and governance meetings using the Town Camp Wellness Framework, and supports the development of a Town Camp Authority Group. The role works closely with the Tangentyere Board, Town Camp Association members and a range of stakeholders to manage incidents, drive follow-up actions, and strengthen community-led decision making.

The ‘Prevent. Assist. Respond. Training – do your part’ (PART) project is specialist ongoing domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) training for police and healthcare workers in the Northern Territory.
The PART project was developed by a consortium led by Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation, with its partners Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA), the Domestic Violence Legal Service (DVLS) and the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission. Northern Territory Police, Northern Territory De-partment of Health, Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory, and Territory Families sit on the PART Steering Committee and provide oversight and guidance on the project.
The PART project has four central aims:
• To ensure the voices of victim-survivors, particularly Aboriginal women, inform the training materials and package for police and healthcare workers
• To increase collaboration and strengthen relationships between the DFSV sector, health and police
• To increase knowledge and understanding of domestic, family, and sexual violence, including emerging forms and key challenges, as well as trauma-informed culturally safe and non-collusive practice, among stakeholders and community members
• To support healthcare workers and police through the development and delivery of targeted ongoing specialist training materials and packages.
While initially focused on police and health sectors, PART is now expanding into a broader community edu-cation context. The PART Community Educator will play a key role in delivering foundational DFSV training across a range of organisations, including Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), spe-cialist DFSV services, legal services, safe houses, and other community contexts throughout the Northern Territory. The successful candidate will be a highly organised and motivated individual with excellent com-munication skills, who is committed to reducing violence against women and children across the NT. The position will involve adapting content and developing resources, delivering in-person training, significant travel, stakeholder engagement, and administrative tasks associated with implementing the PART program in community and frontline service contexts. This role reports to the PART Coordinator and works closely with the PART project team to ensure the training is effectively delivered beyond the police and healthcare sectors.
To successfully fill this role, the PART Community Educator will have completed tertiary studies in Communi-ty Development, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sociology, Psychology, or a related discipline, and have sig-nificant experience in DFSV work as well as in training and education. Experience in, and an understanding of, the Northern Territory context—along with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities—will be highly advantageous.

The Tangentyere Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) aims to work towards the safety, well-being, human rights and dignity of women, children and others affected by men’s use of violence. It incorporates Element Four of the Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018-2028 Safe, Respected and Free from Violence and is one of the five key components of the Northern Territory Government ten-year plan to reduce the impact of domestic, family, and sexual violence in our community.
The MBCP offers a groupwork model and space for men who use violence and abuse in their intimate relationships. Our work with men is part of an integrated response, including contact with partners and ex-partners through Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA).
MBCPs have three central aims:
1. Increase the safety of women and children
2. Monitor risk through an integrated response
3. Support men to make change and stop using violence
The successful candidate will be highly motivated with excellent communication skills and is committed to reducing violence against women and children in Central Australia. They will build relationships with men individually and in a group setting to support them in making nonviolent choices. They will engage with stakeholders as part of an integrated response MBCP to keep men in view and continually monitor risk.

The Coolamon Program sits within Tangentyere Council’s Family Violence Prevention Division (FVPD). The FVPD works across all stages of domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) intervention, from primary prevention to recovery and healing. This division aims to create comprehensive, culturally relevant, and effective responses to DFSV, supporting both individuals and communities throughout the entire journey of prevention, intervention, and healing. The division is governed by the Tangentyere Women’s and Men’s Family Safety Groups, ensuring that all efforts are led and informed by the lived experiences and guidance of local Aboriginal people. This cultural governance feeds into all aspects of our work, ensuring that our programs are both effective and culturally safe.
The primary aim of the Family Violence Specialist - Coolamon Program is to deliver group work and support to families affected by DFSV, with a focus on improving the wellbeing of children, and to develop relevant DFSV resources. The program strives to provide early intervention and support to prevent families from reaching crisis point that necessitate child protection interventions. By strengthening parenting skills, understanding of family violence, trauma, and child development, the program seeks to build individual and collective resilience and capacity within the community.
The Coolamon Program’s core elements include:
Mums and Bubs Group
• Therapeutic group work and support for Aboriginal mothers/carers and their children (0 – 5 years), supporting them to build secure attachment, improve parenting skills, increase their knowledge of DFSV, and foster social connections.
Dads Group
• Fathering sessions for men who have used violence, helping them to develop the capacity for equal, respectful and safe parenting.
Community Sessions
• Engagement with community members through Girls Can Boys Can sessions in Town Camps. Sessions address the critical need for culturally safe, strengths-based education that challenges the drivers of violence against Aboriginal women and children.
Resource Development:
• Lead on the co-design of primary prevention resources with community members ensuring they are culturally safe, trauma-informed and relevant to the experiences of Aboriginal people living in Central Australia.

The Tangentyere Family Violence Prevention Programs (FVPP) approach is underpinned by the Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018–2028: Safe, Respected, and Free from Violence and the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022. These frameworks guide our work in addressing Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) among Aboriginal community members residing in the Alice Springs Town Camps.
FVPP is an integrated program supporting men, women, young people, and children impacted by DFSV. It includes prevention and intervention work, a Men’s Behaviour Change Program, the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group, and the Young Women’s Family Safety Group.
The Girls Can Boys Can Community Partner Project Lead will coordinate the expansion of the Girls Can Boys Can program through a community-led and project advisory approach. This will involve developing culturally safe resources and delivering training and workshops to early childhood educators, children, and families across Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and the Town Camps.
The successful candidate will have completed tertiary studies in Education, Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development, or a related discipline, and/or have relevant experience working alongside communities to deliver and develop primary prevention and education projects. Having a strong understanding of DFSV is desirable, however training can be provided to the right candidate.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who is committed to reducing violence against women and children and supporting young people to engage in safe and respectful relationships.

The Community Centres Division (CCD) provides innovative, unique, place-based programs that support Aboriginal children (0-5 years), school age children (6-12 years), youth (12-18 years), families and kin to achieve positive outcomes in community safety, education, and wellbeing.
The Community Centres Division’s On-Country Learning stream includes the following programs/activities:
Junior Rangers
The Junior Rangers initiative is a re-engagement program designed to support young people who have become disconnected from education by offering them a culturally responsive program of educational activities focused on Science, Maths and Indigenous Languages and Culture (ILC) to help them reconnect with learning and explore pathways to employment. This model offers bush trips, camps and On-Country activities that connect young people to culture, language, and traditional knowledge under the guidance of Elders and cultural leaders. These experiences celebrate Aboriginal culture and Indigenous Ecological Knowledge while making education more meaningful and culturally relevant. The program also focuses on pathways into Ranger work and environmental resource management, providing hands-on experience that leads to jobs aligned with cultural values and community need.
Land and Learning
The Land & Learning Town Camp Program facilitates two-way science education for young people and collaboratively produces resources targeted to these communities.
The Land and Learning program, which has run for 21 years on remote Indigenous communities, supports the teaching of Indigenous ecological knowledge and links this to Western science. The program currently works alongside several remote schools to increase capacity for on-Country learning in schools.
Indigenous Youth Connection to Culture
The Tangentyere Indigenous Youth Connection to OUR Culture Program facilitates cultural activities that have been co-designed with Town Camp cultural knowledge experts and youth. The program supports opportunities that strengthen connection to Country, Culture, Language, Clan, and Family through daytrips, overnight country visits, reflection, documentation and follow up back in the Town Camps. Stronger cultural connection contributes to protective factors including strengthened resilience through pride in identity, improved self-esteem and strengthen positive connection with family, community, and elders.
The On-Country Learning Coordinator is responsible for the comprehensive management of the On-Country Learning stream, including programming, staff supervision, and administrative functions. As such, a thorough understanding of mapping and applying learning outcomes against education curriculum and land management practices is required. This role goes beyond project coordination and requires accountability for operational delivery, reporting, and continuous improvement. The Coordinator will independently develop budgets, implement and review work practices and procedures, and apply co-design principles to ensure culturally responsive engagement. They will analyse program performance, evaluate effectiveness based on feedback, and exercise sound judgment within delegated authority.

TCAC’s Junior Rangers initiative is a re-engagement program designed to support young people who have become disconnected from education by offering them a culturally responsive program of educational activities linked to school curriculum or Ranger industry sector skillsets and knowledge.
Areas of focus would include Science, Maths and Indigenous Languages and Culture (ILC) to help young people to reconnect with learning and explore pathways to employment. This model offers bush trips, camps and On-Country activities that connect young people to culture, language, and traditional knowledge under the guidance of Elders and cultural leaders. These experiences celebrate Aboriginal culture and Indigenous Ecological Knowledge while making education more meaningful and culturally relevant. The program also focuses on pathways into Ranger work and environmental resource management, providing hands-on experience that leads to jobs aligned with cultural values and community need.
This role will support the creation, delivery and evaluation of Tangentyere Junior Ranger activities. Working under the direction of the On-Country Learning Coordinator, the Junior Ranger Project Officer will deliver Junior Ranger program activities alongside the program’s Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge Holders, Registered Training Organisations and schools. The Junior Ranger Project Officer will also assist with co-design activities, data and digital media collection, on-ground support for students, families and workers, and other activities as directed by the On-Country Learning Coordinator.

How do I apply?

What is Selection Criteria?
Selection Criteria is a separate document from your Cover Letter. Your Selection Criteria should be set out in Q&A format to directly answers the dot points of the "Qualifications & Selection Criteria" section of the role's Position Description. Please write a response to each dot point providing explanation and examples to support your skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications.
Do I need an Ochre Card (Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance)?
Yes. You must provide a copy of this, or an invoice showing that you have applied. SAFE NT currently have delayed processing times, so we encourage applicant's to organise their Ochre Card ASAP to avoid delays in employment. If you are successful in being employed, Tangentyere can reimburse the cost of applying for an Ochre Card.
Do I need a Police Check (Criminal History Clearance)?
Yes. Your Police Check must have been completed in the last 6 months. If you are successful in being employed, Tangentyere can reimburse the cost of applying for a Police Check.
Do I need to provide references?
Yes. Please provide at least two professional references, including a previous supervisor. Your referee will not be contacted before an interview process is completed.
Does Tangentyere have an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement?
Yes. All employees are covered by the Tangentyere Council Enterprise Agreement 2013-2016 | Fair Work
