Tangentyere Council is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Town Camps and Central Australia.

First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was a finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

  • Patroller - Aboriginal Identified

    The Tangentyere Youth, Families and Community (YFCS) Division brings together a range of programs and services for young people. This includes the Brown Street Youth Service, the Youth Development Service providing afterhours programs to young people on Town Camps and out-of-school hours services.  The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing.  This means that all staff, including Patrollers, are working across program siloes to provide client and placed-based focused services that are flexible and responsive to needs.  


    With our Patrol service running seven days per week, the Patroller will drive a patrols vehicle alongside a support worker. They will provide safe and culturally appropriate transport through public areas of Alice Springs and Town Camps to both adults and children. 


    The Patroller will also provide early intervention, education and support to Aboriginal people and the wider community in a way that respects culture and human rights.  With guidance from a Senior Patroller, they will provide referral and relevant information about support services to passengers. And will encourage responsible alcohol use, school, and healthcare attendance as well as support and empower Aboriginal people to make a choice that creates a safer environment within the Alice Springs community. 


    The hours of work are 6.30pm to 2am, Monday to Sunday. Flexibility around rostered days and times will be provided to the successful permanent candidate.

    Nyewente Bounce Club is an afterschool basketball program for young people aged 12-18years. This initiative aims to deliver strengths-based skills development program to support pro-social engagement of children and young people residing in the camp. This program will provide employment opportunities for local coaches to promote basketball as a means of engagement and providing an impacting experience that inspires them to set goals and be motivated about their own future. The Bounce Club training program delivers customised training in program facilitation and project management for Indigenous coaches to deliver the bounce club program in their own community, supported by the Trucking Yards Community Centre team. 

    The bounce club program includes basketball skills & drills using social emotional learning research related to the development of resiliency and employability skills for young people. This program will run one a week for 2hrs during the school term.


    The Trucking Yard Bounce Club Youth Coach will run weekly basketball sessions with children and young people. The ideal candidates will be Trucking Yards residents who are enthusiastic about sports and working with young people.

    The Tangentyere Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division brings together a range of programs and services for young people. This includes the Brown Street and Child &Youth outreach Services. As well as our Night and Youth Patrol Service, including Looking After the Kids case management service.  The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing.  


    With services running seven days per week, and during school holidays, the YCS Support Worker will support activities across all these program areas. Including assistance with safe, fun, active, creative, and culturally appropriate activities and learning experiences for children and young people on at 3 Brown Street. Providing support to our YCS Night Patrol as a driver or support person. Or supporting our Youth Outreach Service to conduct activities at Town Camps without a place-based Youth Service.


    The Youth Support Worker will have an excellent knowledge of the Town Camp community and families and be a part of the broader Town Camp communities.

      

    The Youth Support Worker will work alongside a youth worker or patroller in delivering the program and activities.


    The position is indigenous identified, preferably living in an Alice Springs Town Camp or having connections to one.

    Tangentyere Council deliver a range of Youth, Families & Community Safety (YFCS) services across Town Camps and Alice Springs, supporting children, young people, families, and communities through the delivery of daytime and after-hours services focused on recreation, diversion, out-of-home care, community safety and family support programs. 

    The YFCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing.  

    Working closely with the YFCS Coordinators, the Youth Services Team Leader will lead and provide day to day support to Youth Services staff in a range of programs including after-school recreation and diversion programs including the Mobile Youth hub bus. 

    The Team Leader will have previous experience in the provision of creating, organising and running youth activities or overseeing other youth focused programs.

      The successful candidate will be flexible and adaptable, with a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and experience in working in a team. The Team Leader will have a strong work ethic, and the ability to serve as a role model for Youth Services staff and the young people.

    The Team Leader will have a good understanding of trauma informed practices and have a strengths-based lens.  

    They will work in a culturally appropriate manner and have good skills in assessing and engaging vulnerable young people. The Team Leader will work along other Youth Services Team Leaders, oversee Youth workers and Support workers, deliver program requirements and provide day to day direct support for staff.

    This position involves out of hours work including hours from 11.30am to 7.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday, as well as commitment to a rotating 7-day on-call roster.

The program recognises continued connection to family and culture as integral to a child’s identity and has cultural safety as a fundamental principle of its service provision.


    This position is responsible for the day-to-day support for Aboriginal children in our care, the primary focus of this role is to ensure the children are supported through a physically, emotionally, and culturally safe family environment.  Safe House Carers work on a roster system within a home care setting and are required to attend to all aspects of the house whilst on duty with a primary focus on the care and supervision of all children residing in our houses.

    Tangentyere Constructions, a subsidiary of Tangentyere Council, is a professional building contractor. Tangentyere Constructions promotes self-determination and community control in the construction industry.


    Tangentyere Constructions delivers property management, new construction work, and trade repairs and maintenance works to Alice Springs Town Camps and remote communities & outstations. Carpenters will be allocated by the General Manager to work on projects under the supervision of the Property Management Team Leader or one of the Constructions Supervisors.


    This Carpenter will work under the supervision of the construction supervisors, and undertake various construction related activities including but not limited to tasks such as constructing and upgrading municipal residences and buildings, maintenance services including carrying out necessary minor general repairs.


    This position is also expected to work autonomously or as part of a team, demonstrate sound judgement and decision making. The Carpenter must be a responsible person and have the capacity to instruct and supervise unskilled labourers in basic construction related tasks.

    Tangentyere Aged & Community Services (TACS) is part of the Social Services Division, which aims to improve the quality of life of Central Australian Aboriginal people and the wider community through providing innovative, responsive, and culturally safe services.


    TACS provide CHSP, HCP & NDIS home care ¢tre-based services to an extremely diverse and vulnerable cohort of people, where health is more than often secondary to other social determinants.  With more than 7 languages spoken and over 100 clients, TACS continues to uphold quality service provision and maintains its strong ties with members of the Alice Springs and wider community.


    This position will also develop awareness campaigns and social support activities that will be co-designed with TACS clients and the leadership group at Tangentyere Council aiming to spread culturally safe messages to community members about elder abuse, neglect, and family violence.

      

    This position will also support those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to access appropriate and sustainable housing as well as community care, residential aged care, and other support services, specifically targeted at avoiding homelessness or reducing the impact of homelessness while providing early intervention strategies for clients to ensure their emotional, psychological, and physical health and wellbeing is maintained.

    Tangentyere Family Support Service delivers early intervention, and prevention supports for Aboriginal families in Alice Springs, focusing on the wellbeing and best interests of children aged 0–18. The program offers culturally safe, trauma-informed case management tailored to each family's unique circumstances.


    Using a goal-oriented, family-focused approach, the service supports families to create safe and nurturing environments for children. Through coordinated case planning and support, it aims to strengthen parenting capacity, build resilience, and promote long-term positive outcomes.


    The Child & Family Practitioner plays a key role in delivering assertive outreach and intensive case management. They assist families in addressing immediate needs, coordinating holistic supports, and fostering sustainable change. Collaboration with Child Protection and other stakeholders is central to achieving these outcomes.


    This role requires a highly motivated professional with strong communication skills and a commitment to working with vulnerable families. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and a deep understanding of culturally safe, trauma-informed practice, are essential to delivering respectful and effective support.

    Led by our Board of Directors, the Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) is working closely with Town Campers to ensure all aspects of Housing Management across all Town Camps transitions back to TCAC in a manner which upholds principles of self-determination and supports strong governance within Housing Associations/Committees utilising the local – decision making framework.

    The Town Camp Governance and Safety Project Officer is a full-time position working within the OCE team to ensure new and existing governance and organisational policies and programs address local priorities and needs to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes. 

    The Town Camp Governance and Safety Coordinator leads internal coordination and response to issues on Town Camps, facilitates leadership and governance meetings using the Town Camp Wellness Framework, and supports the development of a Town Camp Authority Group. The role works closely with the Tangentyere Board, Town Camp Association members and a range of stakeholders to manage incidents, drive follow-up actions, and strengthen community-led decision making.

    Tangentyere Employment Services (TES) delivers the Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) for Alice Springs Town Camps, outstations in the region, and Amoonguna, and the Municipal and Essential Services program which undertakes required services for common areas across all Alice Springs Town Camps.


    The position is responsible for assisting jobseekers to find sustainable employment. You will assess job seeker’s individual needs, develop tailored job plans, and provide support services such as skills training, job search assistance. You will connect each person with the right employers, and services available in the community to meet their identified needs. As part of this role, you will 

    • Assess job seeker needs by evaluating individual skills, experience, and barriers to employment, as well as detailing their aspirations and goals.

    • Create customised job plans that outline the steps required to secure employment, including training, work experience, overcoming vocational and non-vocational barriers and linking them to other support services

    • Help job seekers with job search assistance, resume development, and interview skills training, to prepare them for the workforce.

    • Keep accurate records of interactions with job seekers and ensuring compliance with RAES guidelines.


    Cultural activities, work experience, training, mentoring, and activities that support the economic development of the community, may also be part of a job seekers employment and participation.


    The TES Service Model is designed to maximise job seekers’ choice and control of their pathway to employment.     Tangentyere’s Community Centres Division provides innovative, unique, place-based programs to support Aboriginal children (0-5 years), school age children (6-12 years), youth (12-18 years), families, and kin to achieve positive outcomes in community safety, education, and wellbeing. There are three programs, delivered through Tangentyere’s Town Camp Community Centres that work with families to support improved outcomes for children from birth to 5 years, including:

    • Tangentyere’s Early Childhood Education Supported Playgroup 

    • Tangentyere’s Child Family Centre program 

    • Congress’ Connected Beginnings Program


    The intention of this role is to support improved developmental outcomes through better service integration within Tangentyere services and with external services providing specialist child and allied health services.  Congress Child Health Teams, who manage the Connected Beginnings Program in Alice Springs and the broader Central Australian region, provide a range of multi-disciplinary health and development assessments to ensure that Aboriginal children aged 0-5, can access necessary allied health services, early years and pre-school programs as needed. 

     

    This role is part of a dynamic team that uses strengths-based, client-centred, community-led approaches to respond to client identified needs. The role facilitates service linkages and referrals to a broad range of internal and external programs and service providers. This role will support Tangentyere’s Early Childhood Education Team in undertaking ASQ Trak assessments. It will also support the Early Childhood Education Team and Child and Family Centre Service Connectors to provide wraparound assistance to families where required and refer clients to specialist programs including services provided by Congress’s Child Health Teams.  


    This role will work under guidance from the Division Manager and in close collaboration with the Congress Connected Beginnings Team. The position involves working in Town Camp Community Centres alongside the CFC Service Connectors, Early Years Educators, Local Support Workers, and Community Centre Coordinators. Town Campers recognise Tangentyere’s Community Centres as culturally safe spaces to access services and resources. Through the Centres, families get assistance to access a range of support services and programs designed to strengthen family and community capacity in achieving outcomes in overall wellbeing, equity of opportunity and improved outcomes.


    The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication and facilitation skills who is committed to working with Town Camp children and families. Additionally, they will engage with stakeholders and community members to promote the Connected Beginnings and Child Family Centre Programs while ensuring culturally safe, accessibility and responsiveness to individuals, families, and communities across the Alice Springs region.

    The Tangentyere Family Violence Prevention Programs (FVPP) approach is underpinned by the Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family & Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018–2028: Safe, Respected, and Free from Violence and the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022. These frameworks guide our work in addressing Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) among Aboriginal community members residing in the Alice Springs Town Camps.


    FVPP is an integrated program supporting men, women, young people, and children impacted by DFSV. It includes prevention and intervention work, a Men’s Behaviour Change Program, the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group, and the Young Women’s Family Safety Group.


    The Girls Can Boys Can Community Partner Project Lead will coordinate the expansion of the Girls Can Boys Can program through a community-led and project advisory approach. This will involve developing culturally safe resources and delivering training and workshops to early childhood educators, children, and families across Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and the Town Camps.


    The successful candidate will have completed tertiary studies in Education, Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development, or a related discipline, and/or have relevant experience working alongside communities to deliver and develop primary prevention and education projects. Having a strong understanding of DFSV is desirable, however training can be provided to the right candidate.


    The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who is committed to reducing violence against women and children and supporting young people to engage in safe and respectful relationships.

    Family Violence Specialist - Prevent Assist Training (PARt) Program.

    The Family Safety & Social Services (FS&SS) Division includes a variety of programs including Tangentyere Family Violence Prevention Program (FVPP) under which sits the Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP), Domestic Violence Specialist Children’s Service (DVSCS), Strong Families Program and the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group (TWFSG). 

    The ‘Prevent. Assist. Respond. Training – do your part’ (PART) project is specialist ongoing domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) training for police and healthcare workers in the Northern Territory. 

    The PART project was developed by a consortium led by Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation, with its partners Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA), the Domestic Violence Legal Service (DVLS) and the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission. Northern Territory Police, Northern Territory Department of Health, Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory, and Territory Families sit on the PART Steering Committee and provide oversight and guidance on the project. 

    The PART project has four central aims:

    • To ensure the voices of victim-survivors, particularly Aboriginal women, inform the training materials and package for police and healthcare workers 

    • To increase collaboration and strengthen relationships between the DFSV sector, health and police

    • To increase knowledge and understanding of domestic, family, and sexual violence, including emerging forms and key challenges, as well as trauma-informed culturally safe and non-collusive practice, among stakeholders and community members

    • To support healthcare workers and police through the development and delivery of targeted ongoing specialist training materials and packages. 

    While initially focused on police and health sectors, PART is now expanding into a broader community education context. The PART Community Educator will play a key role in delivering foundational DFSV training across a range of organisations, including Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), specialist DFSV services, legal services, safe houses, and other community contexts throughout the Northern Territory. The successful candidate will be a highly organised and motivated individual with excellent communication skills, who is committed to reducing violence against women and children across the NT. The position will involve adapting content and developing resources, delivering in-person training, significant travel, stakeholder engagement, and administrative tasks associated with implementing the PART program in community and frontline service contexts. This role reports to the PART Coordinator and works closely with the PART project team to ensure the training is effectively delivered beyond the police and healthcare sectors.

    To successfully fill this role, the PART Community Educator will have completed tertiary studies in Community Development, Social Work, Gender Studies, Sociology, Psychology, or a related discipline, and have significant experience in DFSV work as well as in training and education. Experience in, and an understanding of, the Northern Territory context—along with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities—will be highly advantageous.

    Tangentyere’s Early Childhood Education Supported Playgroups (ECESPP) work in partnership with Town Camp families to provide culturally strong, community driven early years learning that reflects local priorities, aspirations, and strengths. The ECESPP Framework, developed by Town Campers, guides the design and delivery of high quality, culturally informed supported playgroups, incorporating recognised early years best practice and aligning with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). The playgroup strengthens the presence and impact of Early Childhood Education across Town Camps, ensuring children and families experience a positive, safe, and connected start to their learning journey.

    Tangentyere’s Supported Playgroups are place based services delivered within Town Camp Community Centres and operate in close collaboration with other Tangentyere programs to provide integrated, wrap around support that maximises outcomes for families.

    The Coordinator provides professional guidance and program coordination across all aspects of service delivery, including on ground support, staff recruitment, induction, training, supervision, and the use of community development principles to plan, implement, and review learning programs and outcomes. The role leads strategies to increase the engagement of Aboriginal children aged 0–5 years in early learning, ensuring families feel welcome, safe, and supported to participate.

    The Coordinator supports ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and reflective practice to measure the effectiveness of early childhood and parenting programs. Data, community feedback, and the ECESPP Framework are used to drive continuous improvement, maintain cultural integrity, and ensure program responsiveness to Town Camp priorities. The role also promotes early childhood development knowledge in culturally relevant and strengths based ways to enhance family confidence in engaging with early learning systems.

    Working closely with families, Town Camp leaders, the Larapinta Valley Child and Family Centre (CFC), Congress Connected Beginnings, SNAICC, and other early childhood stakeholders, the Coordinator oversees the planning and delivery of supported playgroups, culturally responsive early learning opportunities, and place based family engagement strategies that build parental confidence, knowledge, and participation. The position also plays a key role in strengthening integrated service pathways, including transitions into preschool, kindergarten, and school readiness supports.

    The Community Centres Division provides innovative, unique, place-based programs support Aboriginal children (0-5 years), school age children (6-12 years), youth (12-18 years), families and kin to achieve positive outcomes in community safety, education, and wellbeing.  

    Tangentyere’s Child and Family Centre program is a trusted, embedded service within Town Camps, operating through place based and culturally responsive practices. The program is integrated within the Community Centres Division, leveraging strong relationships and community knowledge to maximise outcomes.

    The Child & Family Centre (CFC) Service Connector role is part of the Community Centres team working across Town Camps. The position uses a client centred approach to support families to navigate the local service system, reduce barriers to access, and connect with a broad range of internal and external services. Service Connectors provide practical assistance, make referrals, create service linkages, and increase awareness of available supports.

    • Program Objectives

    • Support families experiencing vulnerability to identify and address their needs.

    • Strengthen community leadership and capacity to support children and families.

    • Build sustainable, accountable systems that improve child and family wellbeing, including responses to Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) issues.

    The program connects families with 28 Tangentyere programs and more than 50 external services, across program areas including: education, employment, health, mental health, safety, housing, financial support, legal assistance, food security, parenting and wellbeing workshops and ID support.

    The successful candidate will be a motivated and culturally responsive communicator committed to supporting vulnerable children and families. They will work collaboratively with community members and stakeholders to ensure the program remains safe, accessible, and aligned with the needs of Town Camp communities across the Alice Springs region.

Do I need an Ochre Card (Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance)?

Yes. You must provide a copy of this, or an invoice showing that you have applied. SAFE NT currently have delayed processing times, so we encourage applicant's to organise their Ochre Card ASAP to avoid delays in employment.
