Your Council
At the core of all TCAC service delivery is the integration of cultural components in the development, implementation and operation of any program specific policy and practice. This integration extends to both cultural safety and competency. TCAC is a proud Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, and our well established human services are trusted by community members for the organisation’s high level of cultural competency. We recognise that culture forms an integral part of an individual's identity, and recognition of its importance in terms of potential impact on overall wellness is therefore vital.
Our Services and Programs
The Council provides a variety of support services to the Town Camp Communities and remote communities.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, maintaining connection to family and culture is integral to their identity, as well as their social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Read more
A number of factors impact on the safety of Town Campers. Addressing family and domestic violence is as essential as functional infrastructure such as lighting in open spaces and digital access.
Employment and support for Town Campers to enter the workforce is a key priority for Town Campers. We provide job seekers with upskilling and training opportunities, language literacy and numeracy programs, as well as work for the dole activities.
Knowledge, through education and learning, is a key priority for Town Campers of all ages. This includes formal and informal experiences in the classroom, at home and in community. Provision of services by Tangentyere means that Town Camp residents have access to services that they would otherwise miss out on. We aim to improve a range of wellbeing outcomes for children and families experiencing vulnerability by supporting them to access services that will help address their priority needs.
We are the only Aboriginal support to Senior Town Camp Aboriginal community members and those suffering from chronic illness. Our programs provide culturally safe responses for frail and vulnerable Aboriginal Town Campers that meet cultural, medical and social needs.
We support Aboriginal people from Alice Springs, its Town Camps and Central Australia to be able to access a range of services and to exercise their rights as citizens including proof of identification (POI), Return to Country, emergency relief, banking and Centrelink, all at our main site at 4 Elder Street.
Youth
Young people’s health and wellbeing is a key priority for family and community stakeholders in the Tangentyere service area. Young people in our region live precarious lives and are exposed to many risk factors from infancy with less access to education, exposure to family violence, substance misuse, systematic racism and marginalisation all impacting on the lives of young people.
