Tangentyere Council is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Town Camps and Central Australia.

First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was a finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

  • Safe House Carer

    Safe House Carer

    Level: 1.1 - 3.1

    Salary: $28.69 - $37.35 per hour (plus casual loading for casual staff)

    Hours/Employment Status: Casual & Permanent Part Time positions available.


    The Tangentyere Safe House (Ndarndarinjika Safe Houses) provides short term crisis accommodation for Aboriginal children between the ages of 0-12 years old, including respite care. Working from a child centred approach the aim of the program is to ensure that young people are supported therapeutically through the safe provision of a physically, emotionally, and culturally appropriate family environment. The program recognises continued connection to family and culture as integral to a child’s identity and has cultural safety as a fundamental principle of its service provision.  


    This position is responsible for the day-to-day support for Aboriginal children in our care, the primary focus of this role is to ensure the children are supported through a physically, emotionally, and culturally safe family environment.  Safe House Carers work on a roster system within a home care setting and are required to attend to all aspects of the house whilst on duty with a primary focus on the care and supervision of all children residing in our houses.


    As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.


    This position involves out of hours work including evenings and weekends.

  • Youth & Community Safety Support Worker - Aboriginal Identified

    Youth & Community Safety Support Worker

    The Tangentyere Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division brings together a range of programs and services for young people. This includes the Brown Street and Child &Youth outreach Services. As well as our Night and Youth Patrol Service, including Looking After the Kids case management service.  The YCS Division is increasingly working in an integrated fashion, ensuring staff and programs work together to provide holistic services for young people to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing. 


    With services running seven days per week, and during school holidays, the YCS Support Worker will support activities across all these program areas. Including assistance with safe, fun, active, creative, and culturally appropriate activities and learning experiences for children and young people on at 3 Brown Street. Providing support to our YCS Night Patrol as a driver or support person. Or supporting our Youth Outreach Service to conduct activities at Town Camps without a place-based Youth Service.


    The Youth Support Worker will have an excellent knowledge of the Town Camp community and families and be a part of the broader Town Camp communities.  

    The Youth Support Worker will work alongside a youth worker or patroller in delivering the program and activities.

  • TACS Community Support Worker

    Community Support Worker - Tangentyere Aged & Community Services

    Tangentyere Aged & Community Services (TACS) is part of the Family Safety & Social Services Division, which aims to improve the quality of life of Central Australian Aboriginal people and the wider community through providing innovative, responsive, and culturally safe services.


    TACS provide CHSP, HCP & NDIS home care & centre-based services to an extremely diverse and vulnerable cohort of people, where health is more than often secondary to other social determinants.  With more than 7 languages spoken and over 100 clients, TACS continues to uphold quality service provision and maintains its strong ties with members of the Alice Springs and wider community.


    This position will be responsible for providing direct personal care and support to frail, aged people, and people living with disability in the community.

And will encourage responsible alcohol use, school, and healthcare attendance as well as support and empower Aboriginal people to make a choice that creates a safer environment within the Alice Springs community.


    The hours of work are 6.30pm to 2am, Monday to Sunday. Flexibility around rostered days and times will be provided to the successful permanent candidate.

    Tangentyere Artists is part of the Family Safety & Social Services Division, which aims to improve the quality of life for Central Australian Aboriginal people and the wider community through the provision of innovative, responsive, and culturally safe services.


    The unique quality of Tangentyere Artists is that it represents the breadth and depth of Central Australian cultural diversity. Hence there is a huge diversity in style and story, as well as medium. Tangentyere Artists provide a platform from which artists can express themselves, share their stories, their lives, and cultural values, while enriching their community wellbeing and family livelihoods.


    The Gallery Administration Officer will be responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day functions of the Art Gallery. This will include preparing and maintaining a professional and clean gallery space, curatorial activities, full processing of artwork sales and products, contributing to program stock and store management (both internal and online) as well as managing all social media for the program. Other responsibilities include supporting other program departments as required, procurement for the overall Art program, calendar management, meetings, and other administration duties. This role may include occasional offsite duties including working and travelling to art fairs, as well as occasional evening and Saturday work at Tangentyere Artists Gallery.

  • Service Connector (Child Family Centre)

    Service Connector (Child Family Centre)

    The Community Centres Division provides innovative, unique, place-based programs support Aboriginal children (0-5 years), school age children (6-12 years), youth (12-18 years), families and kin to achieve positive outcomes in community safety, education, and wellbeing.

      

    The Service Connector position is part of a dynamic team working with Town Camps that uses client-centred, community-led approaches to respond to client identified needs by facilitating links and referrals to a broad range of internal and external programs and service providers.


    The Service Connector role is a new role as part of the Child Family Centre (CFC) initiative.  The CFC Program will support the delivery of services to children, young people, and families to assist them to navigate local service system to make sure their needs are met.  The Centres will assist families to access a range of support services and programs designed to strengthen family and community capacity in achieving outcomes in overall wellbeing, equity of opportunity and improved outcomes.  


    The objectives of the Child Family Centres are: 

    • To assist and support local families experiencing risk of vulnerability to address their needs. 

    • To strengthen community leadership and capacity to support families to raise children, and 

    • To put in place strong, sustainable, and accountable systems for improving child and family wellbeing. 


    Tangentyere’s CFC model locates 5 specialist family and service connection staff in hubs at existing Community Centres in a ‘Hub and Spoke Model”.  The ‘hub” is Tangentyere’s Community Centre Division, and the spokes are the Community Centres located at Hidden Valley, Larapinta Valley, Trucking Yards, Walripiri/Charles Creek, and Karnte/Little Sisters Town Camps.  This model ensures staff are supported to work in teams that can rapidly respond to individual and community needs, and link families to support services by helping them navigate the local service system.


    This role will work in close collaboration with and under the guidance of the Community Centre Coordinator.

  • Senior Practitioner DVSCS

    Senior Practitioner - Domestic Violence Specialist Children's Service

    Level: 7.1

    Salary: $113,867 per annum/pro rata

    The DVSCS is component of Tangentyere’s Family Violence Prevention Programs (FVPP). The FVPP is an integrated program with components designed to meet the needs of men, women, young people, and children who have been affected by domestic and family violence.


    The DVSCS provides specialist early intervention domestic and family violence support for Aboriginal young people, aged between 12 and 18, who have been impacted by domestic and family violence. Through the provision of education, culturally safe and trauma informed therapeutic supports, case management support, advocacy and client led interventions, the DVSCS aims to provide young people with an awareness and understanding of the dynamics of domestic and family violence, and it’s impacts; empower young people to improve the safety and wellbeing of themselves and others; and to build on current community capacity to identify, reduce and prevent family violence.


    The Senior Practitioner will support the DVSCS Case Managers/Group Facilitators through mentoring, debriefing, and formal supervision to continue to develop their skills, and to ensure that all interventions maintain the safety of women and children at the centre. Additionally, the Senior Practitioner will be an active member of the team in planning and facilitating domestic and family violence education-based group sessions for young people, and training for external staff to improve their capacity to understand and respond to domestic and family violence. The Senior Practitioner will be able to draw upon a broad range of evidence informed practices, theories, and knowledge to inform and guide case analysis, decision making and crisis management.


    The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with well developed, conceptual, analytical, and excellent communication skills who is committed to working with vulnerable families and children. They will also be adept and skilled at tailoring their communication in response to different stakeholders of varying diversity, enabling them to contribute to program development, continuous quality improvement and service innovation.     The Tangentyere Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) incorporates Element Four of the Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018-2028 Safe, Respected and Free from Violence and is one of the five key components of the Northern Territory Government ten-year plan to reduce the impact of domestic, family, and sexual violence in our community. 


    The successful candidate will have completed tertiary studies in Social Work, Welfare Studies, Psychology, or a related discipline with experience in assessment and intake and the delivery of Men’s Behaviour Change work.


    The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills who is committed to reducing violence against women and children in Central Australia and will engage with stakeholders to promote the MBCP and to ensure the program is culturally safe and accepted by individuals, families, and communities across the Alice Springs region.


    This position carries a focus on the intake and assessment processes that support a person’s journey into the Men’s Behaviour Change Program from initial referral through to group work and program completion.  The successful applicant will have the skills to undertake the tasks while also being supported to grow their knowledge and skills to work across all aspects of the program.

    Tangentyere Constructions, a subsidiary of Tangentyere Council, is a professional building contractor. Tangentyere Constructions promotes self-determination and community control in the construction industry.


    The Apprentice Carpenter will work under the supervision of the Tangentyere Construction Supervisor and/or other Tradesman as instructed, to undertake various construction related works throughout central Australia.


    The scope of works will vary from construction related works such as concreting, excavation, and metal fabrication, to general fencing and various other building/carpentry works to complete projects.

    Tangentyere Constructions, a subsidiary of Tangentyere Council, is a professional building contractor. Tangentyere Constructions promotes self-determination and community control in the construction industry.


    Tangentyere Constructions delivers property management, new construction work, and trade repairs and maintenance works to Alice Springs Town Camps and remote communities & outstations. Carpenters will be allocated by the General Manager to work on projects under the supervision of the Property Management Team Leader or one of the Constructions Supervisors.


    This Carpenter will work under the supervision of the construction supervisors, and undertake various construction related activities including but not limited to tasks such as constructing and upgrading municipal residences and buildings, maintenance services including carrying out necessary minor general repairs.


    This position is also expected to work autonomously or as part of a team, demonstrate sound judgement and decision making. The Carpenter must be a responsible person and have the capacity to instruct and supervise unskilled labourers in basic construction related tasks.

    Design has professional experience and expertise in a range of project types including health and housing, childcare and education, art and culture, recreation, and administration. Tangentyere Design is a Public Benevolent Institution that emphasizes the use of design and participatory development approaches to deliver appropriate housing and infrastructure to promote safety and wellness.

  1. A Resume/CV (curriculum vitae) including three referees, of whom at least two are aware of your current or recent work history.
  2. A cover letter.
  3. An application which addresses the Selection Criteria for the position.
  4. A current NT Working with Children’s Card (Ochre Card) or Tax Invoice showing you have applied.

How do I apply?

What is Selection Criteria?

Selection Criteria is a separate document from your Cover Letter. Your Selection Criteria should be set out in Q&A format to directly answers the dot points of the "Qualifications & Selection Criteria" section of the role's Position Description. Please write a response to each dot point providing explanation and examples to support your skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications.


Do I need an Ochre Card (Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance)?

Yes. You must provide a copy of this, or an invoice showing that you have applied. SAFE NT currently have delayed processing times, so we encourage applicant's to organise their Ochre Card ASAP to avoid delays in employment. If you are successful in being employed, Tangentyere can reimburse the cost of applying for an Ochre Card.


Do I need a Police Check (Criminal History Clearance)?

Yes. Your Police Check must have been completed in the last 6 months. If you are successful in being employed, Tangentyere can reimburse the cost of applying for a Police Check.


Do I need to provide references?

Yes. Please provide at least two professional references, including a previous supervisor. Your referee will not be contacted before an interview process is completed.


Does Tangentyere have an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement?

Yes. All employees are covered by the Tangentyere Council Enterprise Agreement 2013-2016 | Fair Work
